A young dancer from Rochdale has won a prestigious national award after being nominated among more than 5,000 children from across the country.
Lyla Briddon, who trains at Fabdance Centre on Rooley Moor Road, received the Anna Jones Award at the IDTA Freestyle and Streetdance Scholarships in Milton Keynes.
Lyla was nominated in both freestyle disco dance and streetdance following examination sessions completed through her dance school.
The scholarships brought together children from dance schools across the country to compete and perform in front of industry judges.
Fiona Briddon, principal of Fabdance Centre, said the achievement reflected Lyla’s dedication and the standard of talent on display throughout the weekend.
She said, “It is such an achievement to just be nominated, let alone to win this award from Anna Jones. We are so incredibly proud.
“We are a small dance school who takes pride in our students with nurturing students to progress onto successful careers in the dance industry, working in theatres, cruise liners.”
She added that the event was a positive experience for all involved.
“It was so lovely seeing children from so many different dance schools all coming together to do what they love and that’s what it’s all about. The talent was absolutely incredible.”
Lyla is currently studying at Pendleton College to continue her dance education and hopes to work on cruise liners in the future.
