Joseph Holt has reduced the price of children’s meals to £1 across its pubs, including those in Bury, as part of a summer initiative to help families during the school holidays.
The brewery has also launched a fundraising campaign aiming to raise £20,000 for children’s charity Meals & More to help tackle holiday hunger across the North West.
The independent family owned brewery, which operates 127 pubs across Bury and the North West, has reduced the price of children’s meals by more than 60 per cent for nine weeks.
The offer runs from 25 June until 1 September to coincide with the Government’s temporary five per cent VAT rate on children’s meals served in pubs and restaurants.
Customers can also upgrade the meal for an additional £1.95 to include a drink and an ice lolly. The brewery said the usual price for the children’s meal deal is £5.45.
Alongside the meal offer, Joseph Holt has launched a summer fundraising campaign across its pubs in support of Meals & More. The charity provides free nutritious meals and activities for children during school holidays when free school meals are unavailable.
Jane Kershaw, director of Joseph Holt and a sixth generation member of the founding family, said, “Community is at the heart of everything we do. We are a family business, which is why our pubs are more than just places to eat or drink. They are part of the fabric of the local areas where they are located.
“The idea of children being hungry over the holidays is desperately sad, which is why all our pubs are mobilising to raise money for Meals and More, who do such sterling work for children’s physical and social wellbeing providing free, nutritious meals and lively activities during the holidays for youngsters who might otherwise miss out on regular support outside term time.
“Equally, in launching this £1 meal deal for kids, we are passing on the savings and more that we are making with the cut in VAT because we want families to benefit. We know school holidays are a costly time for customers, but on the other hand many will want to do lovely things with their children such as eating out together. So enjoying a meal for £1 is one way of achieving this.”
Meals & More said the funds would help support children experiencing food insecurity during the school holidays.
Kerri Frost, corporate partnerships manager at Meals & More, said, “We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as Joseph Holt’s charity partner for their Summer Campaign. Their long standing commitment to supporting local communities aligns perfectly with our mission of feeding young futures by ensuring children have access to food, safe spaces, and enriching activities throughout the school holidays.
“Every raffle ticket sold, every bingo game played and every pound raised across Joseph Holt’s network of pubs will help create brighter holidays for children and families across Greater Manchester and the wider North West. We are incredibly grateful for their support and enthusiasm and look forward to seeing communities come together to make a real difference this summer.”
