An award winning production of Trainspotting is returning to the Geoffrey Sword Studio from 12 July to 18 July after record breaking demand saw some performances sell out.
The theatre says it recorded its highest ever single day of ticket sales following the announcement of the show’s return.
The original cast will reunite for the week long run, with audiences already booking out several performances ahead of opening night.
The production was previously named Amateur Production of the Year by Stagey Reviews.
Adapted by Harry Gibson and Jon Walker from Irvine Welsh’s work, the production relocates the story to Manchester during the 1980s. It follows Mark Renton and a group of friends as they confront heroin addiction, friendship and the consequences of their choices.
The theatre describes the production as an immersive experience, using dynamic staging and direct audience engagement to bring the story to life.
The cast includes characters such as Sick Boy, Alison and Tommy alongside Renton, with the production exploring addiction, redemption and the impact of substance misuse.
The best ticket availability is currently for the matinee performance on 18 July, with several evening performances already sold out.
The theatre has issued a number of content warnings. These include scenes featuring heavy drug and needle use, very strong language, nudity, violence, sexual content, themes of suicide and self harm, addiction, smoking herbal cigarettes, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, strobe lighting and audience participation. It has also advised that anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Audience members can choose between standard theatre seating or immersive bench seating.
