Rochdale and District Mind launched Mental Health Awareness Week with a pottery painting session aimed at encouraging residents to focus on wellbeing and connection.
The event was held in partnership with new creative venue Clay and Glaze and included a visit from the Mayor of Rochdale.
Residents from across the borough took part in the evening session, which centred on creativity, mindfulness, and community support.
The event was organised by Rochdale and District Mind in collaboration with Clay and Glaze, a recently opened pottery painting studio in the borough.
Councillor Janet Emsley, Mayor of Rochdale, attended the event as one of her final official engagements before the end of her term in office this week. Organisers said she joined residents in painting pottery during the session.
Elle Cody, Fundraising and Marketing Manager at Rochdale and District Mind, said: “We wanted to start Mental Health Awareness Week with an activity that allowed people to slow down and connect. Seeing a room full of people creating something from scratch was incredibly powerful.
“We were especially honoured to have Councillor Emsley join us. Her presence was a wonderful reminder that mental health is a priority that connects us all, no matter our role in the community.”
Mohammed and Madina, owners of Clay and Glaze, said: “It was a privilege to collaborate with Rochdale and District Mind for such an important week.
“As a new business in the area, we believe in the power of art to provide a sense of calm and community. Seeing the Mayor and the local residents get so stuck into the creative process was exactly why we opened this studio.”
Organisers said the event marked the beginning of wider Mental Health Awareness Week activities across the borough, with a focus on encouraging safe spaces and local partnerships that support wellbeing.
