A public access defibrillator has been installed in memory of Andy Haines, who died on Holcombe Moor 18 months ago.
The installation marks the 50th community defibrillator fitted by Restart the Heart and was funded through donations raised by Andy’s family, local residents and a primary school.
Community group Restart the Heart announced the milestone installation on social media, describing the project as an emotional moment for volunteers and supporters.
The installation has been dedicated to Andy Haines, who the group described as a “much loved husband, son, family man and friend”.
Andy’s wife Andrea, alongside his parents Barry and Joan Haines, helped lead fundraising efforts through their church and wider community to pay for the equipment.
A local primary school also contributed towards the fundraising campaign.
Restart the Heart said the installation represented both a milestone for the organisation and a lasting tribute to Andy’s memory.
The group wrote: “Andy’s memory will now continue to save lives in the community he was part of. That is such a powerful legacy.”
Restart the Heart provides public access defibrillators, CPR awareness and community education projects across the region.
Public access defibrillators are designed to be used in emergencies before paramedics arrive and can significantly improve survival chances following a cardiac arrest.
