FOOTBALLER Summer Taylor helped her team to add the Manchester FA Girls Cup to their Bolton and Bury League title and now she hopes they win the treble.
The Whitworth Community High School student has been with Haslingden Ladies and Girls U16 Cyclones for around four years and also plays for Rochdale U16s.
In the cup final, the central defence midfielder had a crucial role to play, feeding the ball to the strikers and trying to block the opposing team from playing the ball to their forwards.
Summer, 15, from Shawclough, said: “The final was played at Abbey Hey FC on April 26 against Bury FC.
“To start off with, it was all calm then they scored first, they got two goals early on. At one point we were 3-1 down and then we brought it back to 3-2 and then 3-3 and it went to penalties.
“I didn’t have to take one, and I was glad. Our keeper managed to save three penalties and we won the match 3-1; only one of our penalties was saved by the Bury keeper.
“We had already won the Bolton, Bury and District League a month earlier because we had never lost a match all season.”
The team will now go for the treble as they are also in the U16 Girls Chairmans Cup semi-final on May 3 against their biggest rivals Atherton Town, who are currently second in the Bolton, Bury District League.
Summer said: “This season we have already played them at their ground and we drew 2-2. Last year, and the year before, it has always been us two trying to win the league and last year we lost out on penalties.”
If they are successful in May, the team will face either Bridge JFC U16 Pumas or Bolton Wyresdale U16.
As well as playing football, Summer keeps herself fit working out in the gym and attends Hybrid Hut Gym, Rochdale, where she also does boxercise.
She does not want to trial for a professional team and is hoping, after GCSEs, to complete a BTec and train to be a physiotherapist.
The physio at Haslingden Ladies and Girls Grace Sampson is also a former student at Whitworth Community High School.
Summer added: “I just like football and I play because I enjoy it.”
