A volunteer run community project providing free school uniform to families in Heywood has received around 2,000 donated items from schoolwear retailer Monkhouse.
Heywood Uniform Hub said the donation followed the closure of one of Monkhouse Schoolwear’s branches.
Around 60 boxes of uniform were collected and transported to temporary storage in Heywood with support from local firm Heywood Man and Van. Storage space was provided by Bamford Print.
The community project launched recently and provides free school uniform, coats, shoes and other school essentials to local families while also aiming to reduce textile waste.
Volunteers will now sort the donated items before they are distributed during the Heywood Uniform Hub Summer Uniform Event at St Luke’s Church in Heywood.

The event is due to run from 20 June until 3 September.
Claire Yardley, from Heywood Uniform Hub, said the donation highlighted the strength of community support across the town.
She said local businesses, volunteers and residents had all worked together to help make the project possible.
The project has already supported hundreds of families since launching.
