Rochdale charity highlights honour based abuse awareness at Greater Manchester women’s event

Rochdale Women's Welfare Association took part in the annual GM4Women Dialogue, Deeds and Determination gathering, bringing together women and allies from across Greater Manchester to discuss equality and support for women and girls.

The event featured workshops, panel discussions and contributions from community leaders and elected representatives.

Rochdale Women's Welfare Association said it was proud to take part in the free annual event, which aims to provide a platform for women to share lived experiences, exchange ideas and explore practical action to improve equality across Greater Manchester.

The association's Independent Domestic Violence Adviser and Independent Sexual Violence Adviser, Rabiah, joined a plenary panel discussing the issues surrounding honour based violence affecting women and girls.

Rabiah also led a workshop alongside the organisation's Strategic Lead, Rizwana, focusing on honour based abuse. The session encouraged discussion around raising awareness, preventing abuse and improving support for those affected.

The organisation welcomed Rochdale's Mayor, Councillor Faisal Rana, and the Mayoress, Mrs Iram Faisal, who attended the event. The association said the Mayor spoke about the importance of supporting women and girls across local communities.

Kate Green, Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester for Safer and Stronger Communities, also attended, alongside Councillor Sameena and Councillor Amber Nisa.

According to the association, women from all ten Greater Manchester boroughs took part in the gathering, highlighting collaboration between organisations and communities working to address issues affecting women and girls.

Rochdale Women's Welfare Association thanked GM4Women for organising the event and said it provided an opportunity for women to have their voices heard, engage with decision makers and contribute to discussions aimed at achieving greater equality.
