Merhaba festival to bring world music, food and arts to Rochdale town centre

A free festival celebrating food, music, art and culture from across the Islamic world will return to Rochdale Town Hall Square on Saturday 1 August.

Merhaba, which means welcome, is a family friendly event organised by Culture Co op and created by the Islamic Arts Co op.

Running from 11am until 5pm in Rochdale Town Hall Square on The Esplanade, the festival will feature homemade street food, live music, artisan crafts and activities for all ages.

Visitors will be able to sample dishes prepared by members of Rochdale's diverse communities, including Turkish, Pakistani and Ethiopian cuisine, alongside a range of other international food.

The programme also includes live performances from regional bands playing music from around the world, artisan market stalls showcasing handmade crafts by local and regional artists, and a live art show.

Children and families can take part in free art workshops, games and activities, with free fairground rides also planned throughout the day.

Organisers say the festival aims to bring people together through community cohesion, togetherness and shared cultural experiences.

Entry to the event is free, although food and drink will be available to buy.

The festival takes place at Rochdale Town Hall Square, The Esplanade, Rochdale OL16 1AZ, from 11am until 5pm on Saturday 1 August.
