Volunteers raise over £450 at a Whitworth Skyline Walk breakfast

Volunteers from Thrum Hall Methodist Church helped feed hundreds of walkers taking part in the Whitworth Skyline Walk while raising £450 for Christian Aid.

Members of Thrum Hall Methodist Church set up a breakfast stall along the route of the annual Whitworth Skyline Walk, serving bacon sandwiches and hot drinks to participants completing the 14 mile challenge.

More than 500 walkers took part in the event, which is organised by Whitworth Sports Council and follows a circular route around the boundary of Whitworth across moorland and varied terrain.

The volunteers raised £450 through the breakfast stall, with the money going to Christian Aid to support projects delivered by local partners in communities around the world.

Diane Chadwick, from Thrum Hall Methodist Church, said, "There is a local 14 mile skyline walk with over 500 walkers near where we live and were able to set up a stall on the route to serve bacon butties and drinks for breakfast.

"It was a glorious day, and the walkers seemed very pleased with our efforts, and we raised £450 for Christian Aid.

"We were very happy to be able to chat to people and to be the Church out in the community. Our next Christian Aid fundraiser is a pamper session with Afternoon Tea on 26th July."

According to Christian Aid, support from fundraisers helps projects that work with some of the world's most vulnerable communities. Between 2024 and 2025, the charity says it reached 4.1 million people through almost 400 projects, including savings groups, farming co operatives, climate resilience training and healthcare schemes.
