Bury North MP James Frith has been appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care.
The appointment follows his previous ministerial roles in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and the Cabinet Office.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has appointed James Frith as a minister in the Department of Health and Social Care.
Mr Frith previously served as a minister in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and the Cabinet Office, where he led work on digital public services and the responsible use of technology across government.
His specific ministerial responsibilities at the Department of Health and Social Care have yet to be confirmed.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Frith said, "It is an enormous privilege to have been appointed by the Prime Minister to serve as Minister for Health at the Department of Health and Social Care.
"As MP for Bury North, I've seen both the very best of our NHS and social care, and the challenges they face. I've campaigned alongside local people to reduce waiting times, tackle health inequalities, protect services including our walk in centre, and champion the extraordinary work of our hospices and those providing end of life care. Those experiences have shaped my understanding of what matters most.
"I believe there is a huge opportunity to make health and care services simpler to access, give staff better tools, embrace technology responsibly, and design services around patients rather than institutions. Health is about far more than hospitals. It is about prevention as well as treatment, social care alongside the NHS, and ensuring where you live never determines the care you receive.
"I'm under no illusion about the scale of the challenge ahead. But I know what our NHS, our care workforce, volunteers and communities achieve every day, often in the most difficult circumstances.
"The people of Bury North remain at the heart of everything I do. They have entrusted me to represent them, and I will continue to be their voice while serving in government. Now, it's time to get to work."
It is expected that Mr Frith will work with colleagues across government, the NHS, local government, charities, clinicians and patients as part of the government's plans for health and social care.
