Business leaders, council representatives and partners have marked the tenth anniversary of the Bury Business Leadership Group, celebrating a decade of collaboration to support economic growth and regeneration across the borough.
The event looked back on the group's contribution since it was established in 2016 and outlined plans for Bury's future development.
The Bury Business Leadership Group was created to provide a voice for local businesses and strengthen collaboration between the business community, Bury Council and partners across Greater Manchester.
Its founding membership deliberately brought together organisations that both supported and challenged the council, creating a forum for open discussion to help shape economic priorities and council strategies.
Over the past decade, the group has expanded to 23 members representing businesses from across the borough alongside key regional partners. Members work with the council to encourage business growth, influence skills and employment priorities and promote opportunities for local residents.
During the Covid 19 pandemic, the group supported businesses by sharing guidance and helping organisations respond to rapidly changing circumstances.
The anniversary event, held at the Red Hall Hotel, also reflected on wider progress across the borough. Speakers highlighted improvements in services for children and young people, increased support for care leavers, developments in adult social care and regeneration projects in Radcliffe, Prestwich and Bury town centre.
Guests also heard about future investment plans, including the Atom Valley Northern Gateway development, which is expected to bring new jobs, business opportunities and investment to the area.
Dr Andrew Roberts, chair of the Bury Business Leadership Group and managing director of Avoira, said, "This anniversary is a chance to celebrate the commitment of our members, both past and present. The group has helped strengthen relationships between businesses and the council and has played an important role in Bury's success. We look forward to supporting the borough's next chapter of growth."
Lynne Ridsdale, chief executive of Bury Council, said, "The Business Leadership Group has been a valued partner over the last 10 years. Its members have provided support, challenge and expertise, helping us shape our ambitions for Bury and deliver real change for our communities. We have achieved a great deal together and I am excited about the opportunities ahead."
The council said it aims to continue working with businesses and partners to achieve economic growth above the national average while reducing inequalities and creating opportunities for residents across the borough.
