Police appeal for information after two linked sexual assaults in Rochdale

Detectives are appealing for information after two women were sexually assaulted in separate incidents in Rochdale during the early hours of Saturday.

Greater Manchester Police believe the offences may be linked and have launched a major investigation.

Police said the first report was received at 6.15am after a woman was sexually assaulted in Broadfield Park by a man who was unknown to her.

A second report was made at 8.38am after another woman reported being sexually assaulted in Milnrow Memorial Park. She also said she was attacked by a man she did not know.

Greater Manchester Police said both victims provided a similar description of the suspect.

Officers are looking for a Black man believed to have been wearing a three piece suit or smart black clothing with a dark coat. He is also believed to have been carrying a briefcase.

As part of the investigation, detectives have identified CCTV footage of a man matching that description at the Coco Lounge in Rochdale town centre. Police said he was seen leaving the venue at about 5am.

Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Willis said, "We have a robust investigation underway and are working at pace to identify and locate the man responsible. Detectives are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry and we are committed to identifying whoever is responsible and bringing them to justice.

"You will see an increased police presence in Broadfield Park, Milnrow Memorial Park and Rochdale town centre over the coming days and throughout this evening. Additional officers have been deployed to provide community reassurance and support our ongoing investigation.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a man matching the descriptions provided.

"If you were in the area, or have any mobile phone footage, dashcam, CCTV or doorbell that could assist our enquiries, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please get in touch."

Police are asking anyone who saw a man matching the description, or who has CCTV, dashcam, doorbell or mobile phone footage from Rochdale town centre, Broadfield Park or Milnrow Memorial Park during the early hours of Saturday, to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 quoting incident numbers 679 and 880 of 25 July 2026. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
