Littleborough Band enjoyed a successful Whit Friday, collecting five prizes across a series of contests in Saddleworth.
The band competed in the Third Section for the first time following promotion and secured awards at several venues throughout the day.
Littleborough Band visited seven Whit Friday contests across Saddleworth and returned home with five prizes, including third place in the Saddleworth local area category.
Competing in the Third Section following its recent promotion, the band achieved second place in the Third Section at Denshaw, Grotton, and Lees and Springhead.
The band also secured second place overall at the Friezland contest, adding to a successful evening of performances.
The event also marked the Whit Friday debut of the band’s new Principal Cornet player, Harry Beer, whose performances received praise from adjudicators throughout the contests.
A spokesperson for the band said: “We are delighted with the results and incredibly proud of how all the players performed.
“Whit Friday is one of the highlights of our year, and to achieve the five prizes from the evening is a fantastic reward for everyone’s hard work and dedication.
“We’d like to thank everyone who supported us and the volunteers who help organise the contests.”
The results continue a positive period for the band as it establishes itself in the Third Section and prepares for the National Brass Band Championships in September.
The band’s next competitive appearance will be at the Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Band Contest on 21 June.
Before then, members will host a fundraising event, Banders Bingo, at Littleborough Cricket Club on 12 June.
The band will also present a family concert featuring music from Disney films at the cricket club on 28 June. Organisers say the event is suitable for audiences of all ages.
The wider Littleborough Brass Bands Association is also encouraging new members to join its training band and community ensemble, Boro Brass, with opportunities available for musicians of all ages and experience levels.
