The board is now welcoming recruitment for a new chair, along with two new members
The former chair for Heywood's Pride in Place scheme, Brian Davies, has stepped down, leaving the scheme temporarily without a chair for the £20 million initiative.
Elsie Blundell, MP for Heywood and Middleton North commented, saying: “Brian has done a fantastic job of getting the investment plan approved by government and starting the Pride in Place scheme. Now it has to change to a delivery phase and it is exciting that we are looking for a new chair and two new board members to strengthen the board for this next important stage.
“We know that the community wants to see Pride in Place focus on three things: crime and anti-social behaviour, transport links, and facilities for young people. That’s what local residents have told us. Now we must deliver a transformation of the town, using this money.”
The Pride in Place project is led by the local community, with board members who represent different corners of Heywood's residents, community organisations, civil society, and businesses. After producing an investment plan and securing funding from the Government, the board is entering the project delivery phase, bringing forward and developing proposals for the £20m (£2m a year, for 10 years).
Elsie added: “This is national money which can only be spent locally, led by the community. It means an exciting new chapter in Heywood’s future to transform the town we see around us and create new opportunities for the people who live here.”
Heywood’s Pride in Place Board are looking for a new chair to lead the board through the next stage of its work, developing, and funding projects to shape the future of the town. They are also looking for two new members to join the board.
The Chair will lead engagement and keep Pride in Place focused on delivery through relationships with key stakeholder such as the Council, Rochdale Development Agency, the NHS, Action Together, and others. Working with board members they will be responsible for sharing information, gaining consensus, and participation from the board and the community.
Elsie has said that anyone who is interested in applying can reach out to her office for a chat by emailing her. Elsie has said “We want a strong leader who is confidently about Heywood’s future, there is so much potential here.”
The deadline is 7th September.
