A community hub serving Fishpool, Goshen, Redvales and Springs is urging residents to donate essential items at a food drive taking place this Saturday at Bury FC.
FGRS Hub, based at Gigg Lane will be collecting donations from 12.30pm onwards on the club car park, with support of Bury FC volunteers.
The hub was created to provide a safe space and to become the heart of the community. It runs a food pantry, a school uniform and clothes bank, and offers a welcoming place where people can come together for a brew and support.
Volunteers are asking for non perishable items including tins, jars, rice, pasta and cereal. Toiletries are also in regular demand, particularly shampoo, shower gel and toothpaste.
Sherridan Matthews from FGRS Hub said:
"Donations to our pantry enable us to support our local community. Many people are being affected by the rising costs of food and are struggling to put food on the table. Working poverty is on the biggest challenges in today's society."
Casey Lynchey, Head of Operations and Community at Bury FC, added:
“We believe a football club should be at the heart of its community. This food bank appeal is about more than donations, it’s about standing together and supporting families who may be struggling. We’re proud to be working alongside FGRS Community Hub, and we encourage all our supporters to bring along a non-perishable item at the next home game. Even the smallest contribution can make a real difference.”
The appeal comes as the hub continues to manage pressure on supplies, including the recent loss of frozen stock after a freezer was accidentally switched off, two donations totalling £500 have been received since.
The pantry supports residents each week and relies entirely on donated goods.
Supporters attending the match are encouraged to bring what they can.
