Greater Manchester Police are in attendance on Bury New Road after a fatal collision involving a pedestrian. Emergency services were called earlier this evening, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver involved has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.
Bury New Road is closed between Butterstile Lane and Scholes Lane, with a police cordon in place while enquiries continue.
A shoe and handbag can be seen in the middle of Bury New Road inside the cordon on the opposite side of the carriageway as the forensics tent.

The road closure is expected to remain in place for the remainder of the evening until the early hours of the morning.
