When Rochdale Online closed its doors earlier this year, Roch Valley Radio stepped up to ensure the stories from the boroughs we serve didn’t go untold.
Community-based journalism and broadcasting has always been at the heart of what we do, but in 2025, it became our full-time responsibility.
Roch Valley Radio broadcasts on DAB digital radio, covering Rochdale, Bury, Bolton, Oldham and Tameside, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Powered by more than 100 dedicated volunteers, Roch Valley Radio has grown into a trusted local voice, combining news, music, community content and real-time updates. Across all our platforms, we’ve seen over 30 million views this year alone.
As the borough’s only dedicated local news team, we’ve reported from council chambers, police briefings, festivals, by-election counts, planning meetings and community centres. We’ve listened to residents, questioned officials, and held power to account, all while celebrating the people and places that make our region proud.
This round-up highlights just some of the stories we’ve covered over the past twelve months. Each one reflects our growing commitment to keeping local journalism rooted in the communities it serves... honest, accessible, and accountable to you.
With an average of two articles per day, a lot has gone on, and our team has put a lot into 2025, and we're proud to have been part of the action.
If you'd like to get involved with Roch Valley Radio, whether that be behind the microphone, hosting your own radio show, or being a journalist in our borough, there is a role and opportunity for everyone.
