A fundraising event in Heywood has raised £1799.65 for Macmillan Cancer Support after Donna Dolan bravely shaved her hair ahead of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.
The event took place at The Kings in Heywood on 28 February, where Ms Dolan shaved her hair ahead of starting chemotherapy and radiotherapy for breast cancer.
Money was raised through donations and a raffle. As part of the fundraiser, Ms Dolan also pledged to donate her hair to The Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions.
In a message shared after the event, Ms Dolan thanked those who attended and donated. She said, “I just want to start by saying thank you, truly, from the bottom of my heart, for coming to support my Brave the Shave in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
“Seeing so many of you here today means more than I can put into words. Your presence, your generosity, and your donations will make a real difference to people and families who need support during some of the hardest times in their lives.”
She added that every contribution would help the charity continue its work supporting people affected by cancer.
Ms Dolan gave special thanks to Rachel Haden and Leanne at The Kings in Heywood for organising the event, along with Laura Helliwell from Younique Talent for carrying out the shave. She also thanked Curry’s Rochdale, Morrisons in Rochdale and Heywood, Tesco in Rochdale, Teel Inkd Tattoo, Teepee Treats, Be You Lifestyle Boutique and Oni Tattoo Collective Bury among others for their support.
She also paid tribute to her husband Michael and her children Rachel, Kyle and Tommy, who joined her in braving the shave, as well as wider family and friends for their emotional support.
Ms Dolan said, “This hasn’t just been about shaving hair, it’s about standing together, raising awareness, and showing that no one faces cancer alone.”
The total raised currently stands at £1799.65, with organisers confirming all funds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
