Restoration project hailed for community involvement and care for local wildlife.
The restoration of Rochdale Town Hall has been recognised with a commendation at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) North West awards for planning excellence.
The judges praised the scheme for its strong collaborative and community focused approach, which saw local volunteers play a key role in the project’s delivery. They also highlighted the careful protection of the peregrine falcons that nest in the town hall’s clock tower. Temporary nesting alternatives were provided during restoration works, with support from local businesses.
The extensive project was led by Rochdale Borough Council in partnership with Rochdale Development Agency and supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Rochdale Town Hall reopened earlier this year following a major conservation programme and now hosts a regular calendar of events. The building is open daily for visitors, except on Bank Holiday Mondays.
