KYP Easter programme brings creative activities and healthy meals to Rochdale children

Children across Rochdale took part in six Easter holiday activity days delivered by KYP through the Holiday Activities and Food programme.

The sessions, funded by Rochdale Borough Council, were open to children aged four to 16 and were planned and led by KYP staff.

Each themed day focused on creativity, healthy living and social connection, with activities designed to help children learn new skills while enjoying their time during the school holidays.

Children took part in arts and crafts including decorating Easter eggs and making cards for family members. They also created fresh fruit kebabs and spent time reading together.

Outdoor activities formed a key part of the programme. Participants planted strawberry plants at Petrus Community Garden to take home and care for, and joined nature walks through Roch Wood and a nearby park.

The programme also included a cinema trip where children watched The Magic Faraway Tree.

All attendees were provided with a nutritious hot meal prepared on site during each session.

Parents said the sessions had a positive impact on their children. One parent said, “I couldn’t be happier with the experience. My child felt supported, had lots of fun, and loved the arts and crafts sessions they were so proud of the Easter cards they made and couldn’t wait to give them to family members.”

Another parent said, “I was really impressed that they got to make their own fruit kebabs. My child came home excited about trying new healthy foods and even wanted to recreate them at home.”

Children also shared positive feedback. One said, “I really enjoyed the different activities, especially the crafts because you could be creative. I can’t wait to come back.” Another said, “Planting the strawberries was my favourite. I’m going to grow mine at home.”

Zulf Ahmed, chief executive of KYP, said, “I want to thank our brilliant staff and volunteers who went above and beyond to make these sessions so special. We’re looking forward to continuing our activities through the Summer holidays and beyond.”
