Five more fly tipping fines issued in Bury crackdown

Bury Council has issued five more Fixed Penalty Notices to people caught illegally dumping waste as part of its ongoing action against environmental crime.

The latest enforcement action saw five Fixed Penalty Notices of £400 each issued for fly tipping offences at Merton Road, Walmsley Road, Heywood Street, Cateaton Street and at a private waste management unit in Ramsbottom.

The fines total £2,000.

The council said it has now issued 15 Fixed Penalty Notices for fly tipping and a further five for littering over recent months.

Environmental Enforcement Officers work alongside Bury's Control Room, Housing, Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods teams to identify offenders, gather evidence and support investigations.

The council said intelligence sharing, CCTV footage, vehicle details and information from partner organisations are being used to identify those responsible for environmental offences.

Enforcement action can include Fixed Penalty Notices, cautions and prosecutions.

Residents can dispose of household waste free of charge at 21 recycling centres across Greater Manchester, including two sites in Bury.

The council is also reminding residents to check that anyone they pay to remove waste is a registered waste carrier and to report incidents of fly tipping.

Further information about recycling centres, bulky waste collections and reporting fly tipping is available on the Bury Council website.
