A specially brewed ale celebrating Rochdale’s year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture has been tapped in the House of Commons.
A unique collaboration between four local breweries has seen a Rochdale-brewed beer poured in Parliament’s Strangers’ Bar. The ale, named Signo, was developed at Wakey Wakey Brew Company in partnership with Brid’s Cross Brewing, Serious Brewing Company and Twisted Mule Brewery.
Signo was created using all-British hops to mark Rochdale’s role as Greater Manchester’s Town of Culture for 2025-26. The cultural programme features a year-long calendar of events, and the ale aims to bottle the borough’s community spirit and heritage.
MPs Paul Waugh and Elsie Blundell joined brewers and Barry Watts from the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) at a small event in the Strangers’ Bar to celebrate its launch.
Paul Waugh, MP for Rochdale, said it was a proud moment. “Signo represents the creativity, collaboration and co-operative spirit that defines our borough during our year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture. I’m delighted colleagues from across the country can now experience a small taste of Rochdale.”

Heywood and Middleton North MP Elsie Blundell added: “Local beer, like that brewed by Twisted Mule in my constituency, is some of the best in the country. Well done everyone, I’m looking forward to parliamentary colleagues telling me how much they have enjoyed it.”
The Strangers’ Bar, located near the House of Commons chamber, is known for showcasing independent beers from across the UK. Its rotating selection gives MPs and staff a chance to discover regional brews.
Signo is also available in pubs across the borough as part of the Town of Culture celebrations.
