Rochdale secured a place at Wembley with a 2-1 victory over Scunthorpe United in their National League play off semi final. Goals from Mani Dieseruvwe and Devante Rodney proved decisive in a tense finish.
Rochdale made a fast start at the Crown Oil Arena and took the lead inside four minutes. Luke Hannant delivered the ball into the six yard box where Mani Dieseruvwe finished from close range to continue his strong scoring run.
The home side pushed for a second before the break, with Rodney going close with a header, while Scunthorpe created limited chances that were dealt with by the Rochdale defence. The first half included a lengthy stoppage after an injury to Dan Moss, who was later replaced.
Scunthorpe improved after the interval and forced a number of openings, including an effort that was tipped over the bar. Rochdale also had chances, with Hannant shooting wide when through on goal.
The decisive second goal arrived when Rodney struck from distance, sending the ball into the top corner to give Rochdale a two-goal advantage.
Scunthorpe pulled a goal back late on to set up a nervy finish, but Rochdale held on through added time to secure the win.
The result means Rochdale will face Boreham Wood at Wembley with promotion at stake.
