Oldham Council says it is investigating an issue affecting ballot papers in the Waterhead ward after reports that local election votes were disqualified due to a printing error.
Voters in Waterhead are understood to have received ballot papers listing candidates from a different ward in Shaw, first reported by Charlotte Hall from the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
A spokesperson for Oldham Council said an investigation was underway to determine how many ballot papers were affected.
The spokesperson said: "We are aware of an issue affecting some ballot papers in the Waterhead ward. An investigation is underway to determine the extent.”
Reports suggest at least 15 votes were disqualified following the error.
The issue is understood to have involved ballot papers carrying the names of candidates standing in another seat around three miles away in Shaw instead of the correct Waterhead ward candidates.
It is not yet clear how many voters may have received incorrect ballot papers or whether the issue could affect the final result in the ward.
No further details have been released by the council at this stage.
