Volunteers have joined forces to brighten Rochdale town centre through a new partnership between Rochdale in Bloom and Rochdale Riverside.
The collaboration has funded four prominent flower beds in a key civic area near Rochdale Town Hall and the borough's War Memorial.
The new displays are located in the heart of Rochdale town centre and form part of a two year sponsorship partnership between Rochdale in Bloom and Rochdale Riverside.
Two of the flower beds make up a Legacy Garden created from an award winning design by Rugby Goodwin and Jess Arundell. The pair won the Chartered Institute of Horticulture's Young Horticulturalist Garden Designer of the Year competition, with the national final taking place in Rochdale earlier this year.
The design focuses on sustainable urban planting and aims to demonstrate horticultural excellence within a public setting.
A further two beds have been developed in support of Rochdale charity Jolly Josh. The displays include sensory planting features intended to create an accessible and engaging environment for visitors of different ages and abilities.
The project builds on Rochdale Riverside's ongoing support for Jolly Josh, which has been the shopping centre's Charity of the Year for the past two years.
Staff from Rochdale Riverside joined Rochdale in Bloom volunteers to help plant the displays and prepare the gardens for the summer season.
The partnership will continue throughout the summer with activities at Rochdale Riverside, including competitions, interactive experiences and family focused events during the school holidays.
The programme will coincide with Rochdale in Bloom's regional and national judging period, with organisers hoping the displays will help showcase the town centre to visitors and judges.
Rachel Byrne, centre manager at Rochdale Riverside, said, “Rochdale Riverside is proud to support a new two-year sponsorship partnership with Rochdale in Bloom, supporting a range of projects designed to enhance Rochdale town centre and celebrate community, creativity and wellbeing.
We’re delighted to work with Rochdale in Bloom and play a part in making the town centre more vibrant, welcoming and inclusive. These beautiful flower beds are a fantastic addition to Rochdale and we’re looking forward to continuing the partnership throughout the summer with activities that bring the community together.”
Roy Down, vice chairman of Rochdale in Bloom, added, “This partnership is a fantastic example of businesses and community organisations working together to make a real difference to Rochdale. The support from Rochdale Riverside will help us create lasting displays that residents and visitors can enjoy for years to come.”
