A wine bar and shop with a first floor balcony is set to be the latest new hospitality business to open in Prestwich village. Plans have been published this week seeking to convert vacant premises on Bury New Road to a 44-person capacity bar.
Applicant Cellar Door Wine Bars Ltd have requested Bury Council grant them a change of use for the building, which is next door to the The Pearl restaurant.
The plans say the new bar would operate over both floors of the premises and would employ the equivalent of three full-time staff.
In their application, Alkrington based Cellar Door Wine Bars, said: “The property is currently vacant and was previously used as a shop. “This proposal looks for a change of use to a wine shop and wine bar on the ground and first floors.
“The property sits between a licensed restaurant and a licensed bar with no adjacent residential properties. “We propose to move the front door adjacent to it’s current position to allow for more seating near the window area.
“The window on the first floor will also be replaced with a patio door to allow access to the balcony at the front of the building.”
The application states only cold bar snacks would be offered at the proposed venue. The application, added: “The proposed bar will have seating for a maximum of 44 customers.”
If the plans are approved opening hours would be Wednesday (5pm-11pm), Thursday and Friday (3pm-11pm) Saturday (Noon-11pm) and Sunday (Noon-8pm). A separate premises license application has been submitted to the council for the sale of alcohol.
There have been several new high profile opening in the Bury New Road area in recent months. In late 2024 Rudy’s Pizza opened in nearby premises at the former Barclays Bank and earlier this month beer specialists Keg, Cask & Bottle, who currently operate in the Longfield centre, confirmed that the beer specialists will move to 424 Bury New Road, formally the site of Gorge restaurant.
Artisan bakery chain GAIL’s also opened close by at the start of the year.
