Five Lamborghinis and Mercedes seized after motorway driving reports

Five Lamborghinis and a Mercedes G-Wagon have been seized after police received reports of dangerous driving on the M66 and M62.

Greater Manchester Police said the vehicles were being driven at high speeds, weaving between lanes, wheel spinning and at times slowing to around 17mph on the motorway.

Officers from GMP's Transport Policing and Crime Command responded to the reports on Wednesday evening, September 2.

The force's Roads Policing Unit was told a group of high-powered vehicles were being driven on the M66.

Police later found the convoy on the M62 and stopped two Lamborghinis as they left the motorway.

Specialist tactics were then used to stop the remaining vehicles in Rochdale.

Five Lamborghinis and a Mercedes G-Wagon were seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002.

GMP said the drivers were prosecuted for a number of driving offences.

Chief Inspector Danny Kabal, from GMP's Transport Policing and Crime Command, said: “We take road safety very serious in GMP, and we will not tolerate careless, inconsiderate, anti-social or dangerous driving on our roads.

“People who think it is acceptable to use our roads as a racetrack, need to pay attention to this result and take it as a warning – they will have their vehicles seized and they will be prosecuted. Where proportionate to do so, they will also be arrested.”

Police temporarily closed the road while dealing with the vehicles.

Chief Inspector Kabal thanked members of the public who reported the driving and asked anyone with footage of the incident, including dashcam or CCTV recordings, to contact GMP.
