Police appeal for witnesses following death of man in Bury

Police are appealing for information following the death of a man who was reportedly assaulted in Bury town centre.

Greater Manchester Police said the man became unwell outside the Sky Bar at around 8.45pm on Wednesday 22 July after reportedly being assaulted.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died on Saturday 15 August.

His family are being supported by specialist officers.

A man who was arrested on suspicion of assault has since been charged.

Police are now seeking to speak to a man pictured as part of their appeal, who they believe was seen with the victim outside the Sky Bar at around 7.30pm on 22 July.

Officers also want to hear from anyone who was in or around the venue that evening and may have information about what happened.

Senior investigating officer Duncan Thorpe said: “While a man has been charged in connection with this case, our enquiries remain ongoing and we are continuing to piece together the events of that evening.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was at or around the Sky Bar in Bury town centre on Wednesday 22 July and may have seen this incident or has information about what happened.

“No matter how insignificant you think the information may be, it could prove vital to our investigation. I would urge anyone who can assist to come forward and speak to us.

“Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time, and specially trained officers continue to support them.”

Anyone with information can contact GMP on 101 or through LiveChat, quoting log 3696 of 22 July 2026.
