A new Polish academy has opened in Rochdale, offering language lessons and cultural activities for local families and residents.
The Sikorski Academy was established in 2025 by Edyta Stefanska and Agata Majchrowski following discussions with teachers and parents in the local Polish community about the need for dedicated education and cultural provision.
Based at the Polish Catholic Centre and Parish in Rochdale, the academy provides classes for children, young people and adults, focusing on Polish language, history and cultural activities.
Organisers said the initiative aims to strengthen community links and provide opportunities for people to connect with Polish heritage while welcoming anyone interested in learning about the culture.
Agata Majchrowski, director of education, has a background in teaching and played a central role in developing the academy’s curriculum and learning offer. Edyta Stefanska, director of administration and legal affairs, oversees the running of the organisation.
The academy also works with Polish organisations across the UK and maintains links with the Polish Consulate in Manchester.
In information provided by the organisers, the academy is described as the first formal Polish educational institution in Rochdale in 75 years, reflecting what they say is a long standing gap in provision for the local community.
The academy offers a range of educational and cultural sessions designed to support language learning and promote understanding of Polish traditions, while contributing to Rochdale’s wider multicultural environment.
