A Rochdale mother has launched a new discount membership platform to support women during pregnancy and maternity leave.
A new scheme offering exclusive discounts to those on maternity and adoption leave has launched across Greater Manchester, with several Rochdale businesses already signed up.
The Mothershift, founded by Rochdale mum-of-three Danielle Stott, is a one-time membership giving access to perks from over 25 independent cafes, restaurants, gyms and shops across the region. Members receive a digital card valid from 20 weeks pregnant until 12 months after their baby’s due date, or from the date of an adoption matching certificate.
The membership costs £10 and aims to support women during what Stott describes as “a complete life shift” often overlooked once the baby arrives. “Having a baby is incredible, but it’s easy to forget that mums are people too,” she said. “Maternity leave deserves more support.”
Local businesses including Olive and Pickle, Gladwin's Bistro, Doh Bakery and LWL Gym are among the Rochdale-based partners already signed up. Other participating venues include Hive Bakehouse in Westhoughton, Charlie Bakes in Ramsbottom, Boxx2Boxx in Wythenshawe, Nell’s Pizza in Manchester city centre, and BLOC in Uppermill.
Nell’s Pizza co-founder Charlotte Heyes, also a mum-of-three, said: “What Danielle has spotted has been going on for such a long time. Parents deserve places they feel at home. The discounts might help during those tight maternity months and give new mums the encouragement to get out more.”
Mothershift members can use their cards in store or access codes for online use. Stott said she was proud of Rochdale’s early backing and urged more businesses to get involved through the Mothershift website or social media.
“Everyone who is on maternity leave deserves perks that put them first, not just the baby,” she said.
