Members of Greater Manchester’s Jewish community have gathered outside Manchester Cathedral this morning in a powerful show of unity and defiance, just days after a terror attack targeted a synagogue in Crumpsall.
The protest, which is under heavy police presence, comes amid heightened tension across the city. Officers from Greater Manchester Police and members of the Community Security Trust, known as CST, are stationed around the cathedral and nearby streets to ensure public safety.
Despite the fear and grief that followed the synagogue attack earlier this week, many Jewish residents have chosen to attend the gathering openly, saying they “refuse to be driven into hiding”.
One participant told our reporter that the show of presence was about “standing tall, not silent”. Others described it as a “moment of strength and unity” for a community that has long faced antisemitism but continues to assert its place proudly within Manchester’s diverse fabric.
A sea of flags being waved include Union Jack flags and Israeli flags.
