La Latte Lounge Community Cafe CIC has opened a new community space and women’s workshop on Bank Street aimed at supporting people facing isolation, mental health challenges and abuse.
The new facilities were officially opened this week and are intended to provide a safe and welcoming environment for women and girls.
La Latte Lounge said the women’s workshop had been created to help tackle issues including social isolation, anxiety, depression, mental health difficulties and experiences of abuse.
Organisers said many women can face challenges in isolation and may feel reluctant to speak about experiences because of fear, embarrassment or concerns about opening up to others.
Amanda from La Latte Lounge said the project’s main aim is to “empower women and girls with basic life skills and provide a safe, comfortable space which they can come any time”.
She added that the environment had been designed to help people build resilience and reconnect with others.
The organisation has also launched a separate Community Lounge which will host existing groups and sessions, with further activities expected to be added in the coming weeks.
La Latte Lounge said it plans to work with a range of agencies to provide support and services for people who need help.
The organisation thanked supporters and partner agencies that have worked alongside the group over the last two years to help develop the new facilities.
