A 100 year old resident living at Half Acre House Residential Care Home in Rochdale is capturing hearts on TikTok while raising money for a cause that has been close to her heart for many years.
Catherine "Cath" has always had a love of music and dancing and continues to light up whenever she hears her favourite songs. Recently, Cath shared her wish to support children in Sri Lanka, a country that holds special memories for her. Inspired by her passion for helping others, Cath's family and the team at Half Acre House found a unique way to combine her love of dancing with fundraising.
Cath now takes part in short dance videos which are shared on TikTok to raise awareness and funds for her chosen charity. Her enthusiasm, infectious smile and enjoyment of dancing have already brought joy to thousands of people who have viewed online.
For Cath, dancing is more than just an activity, it is something that brings happiness, confidence and a sense of purpose. The videos allow her to continue doing something she loves while making a positive difference to the lives of others.
Cath's wellbeing and dignity remain the priority at all times. The project was carefully considered with her family and relevant professionals to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place and that the activity reflects Cath's wishes, interests and enjoyment.
The team at Half Acre House have been overwhelmed by the positive response and support shown towards Cath. Her story is a wonderful reminder that age should never be a barrier to pursuing passions, bringing joy to others, or making a difference in the world.
