The co leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, Zack Polanski, visited Gorton and Denton to lead a rally backing the party’s campaign in the upcoming by-election.
The rally took place as campaigning intensified, with the Greens seeking to position themselves as a main challenger in the contest.
Mr Polanski told supporters that campaigners on the doorstep were seeing what he described as a sharp drop in support for Labour and claimed the Greens were best placed to prevent a victory by Reform.
He said voters in Gorton and Denton faced a clear choice at the by-election, between what he described as a people-powered campaign and parties backed by wealthy interests.
This is the moment. The Gorton and Denton by-election is a battle for the soul of our country — community power versus billionaire backers, hate versus hope. pic.twitter.com/hqqocrpvD0

Zack Polanski said: "On the doorsteps, we can sense the Labour vote is in freefall. Only Greens can beat Reform in Gorton and Denton. People can choose to make hope normal again – backing a party that wants to cut people’s bills, rebuild public and community services and tax extreme wealth. Or they can back a party backed by the super-rich, big oil and gas and gambling companies, who want to divide our communities.
"This by-election is a battle between big money and people power, and Greens are going to show that people power can win. Tonight, we are just getting started. We will throw the kitchen sink at this contest. We are in it to win it.”
Green Party posters at the rally with Zack Polanski tonight have misspelt the constituency name. It comes after Green MP Ellie Chowns spelt the constituency name wrong yesterday in a social post, referring to the town as "Girton".

The party is determined to win the seat and told supporters the rally marked the start of an intensive local campaign effort.
