Rochdale Boroughwide Housing has reached a major milestone in its College Bank relocation programme after the 100th customer accepted an offer of a new home.
The housing provider says 64 customers have already moved from the high rise blocks as work continues to support the remaining residents.
Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, known as RBH, said its relocation programme is continuing as it works with customers affected by the decision to move residents out of the College Bank estate.
The organisation said staff are continuing to meet with remaining customers to assess their housing needs at times that suit them. A twice weekly drop in session is also being held at the Town Mill Brow community room.
One resident who has already moved is Tony, who spent 19 years living in a bedsit on the first floor of Dunkirk Rise.
He said, “The move was easy. The team have been outstanding and particularly Molly, Lisa, Michael and Mark who have become like friends to me. They can’t do enough. Even though I’ve moved they’ve still helped me out with stuff.”
He added, “RBH have been fantastic for me.”
“I don’t know anyone would want to stay in the flats.”
Tony said his move has improved both his health and household finances.
He explained that he had previously paid around £125 a week to heat his flat using an electric storage heater, but now spends around £67 a month heating his bungalow. He said the savings have allowed him to buy a new car.
Hannah Fleming, Director of Regeneration and Asset Performance at RBH, said, “To hear such kind words from customers like Tony is heartwarming and we are delighted he likes his new home.”
She added, “The team have worked really hard to get us to this stage and I’m proud of them all.”
Ms Fleming said the decision to relocate residents from College Bank had been difficult but was made with customers’ long term safety in mind.
She said RBH remained committed to supporting every resident throughout the relocation process.
