Rock Choir opens new Rochdale group with free taster sessions

Rock Choir has launched a new group in Rochdale, giving local people the chance to join the contemporary singing organisation without auditions or the need to read music.

The new choir is led by musician Xander Jaymes Le Petit and rehearses at Bamford Chapel.

Founded in 2005 by musician and singer Caroline Redman Lusher MBE, Rock Choir has grown into what it describes as the world's largest contemporary choir experience, with more than 33,000 members taking part in communities across the UK.

The Rochdale group is the latest addition to its Greater Manchester programme, with Xander Jaymes Le Petit also leading choirs in Bolton, Middleton and Saddleworth.

The organisation says its rehearsals focus on contemporary pop, rock and chart music in a relaxed and inclusive environment. There are no auditions and members are not required to read music.

Alongside weekly rehearsals, members have opportunities to perform at community events, charity fundraisers and larger venues. Previous Rock Choir performances have included Wembley Stadium and Carnegie Hall in New York.

Xander Jaymes Le Petit said, "I'm incredibly excited to be launching a brand new morning choir in Bamford Chapel, Rochdale. There's something really special about starting the day with music. It lifts your mood, builds confidence and brings people together in a really uplifting way.

"Bamford Chapel is a gorgeous space to sing in and our first session of term was full of fun and laughter not to mention a good old natter over a cup of tea or coffee. You don't need any experience to join us, just a love of singing and a willingness to have a go. It's all about fun, friendship and feel good music, and I can't wait to welcome new members into the choir."

People interested in joining are invited to attend a free taster session before deciding whether to become a member.
