Middleton edge East Lancashire to boost promotion hopes

Middleton CC claimed a hard fought three wicket victory over East Lancashire after successfully chasing 175 in the Lancashire League.

The home side reached their target with two balls to spare after bowling East Lancashire out for 174.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, East Lancashire were dismissed for 174 in 44.4 overs despite a determined innings of 44 from Kamran Anwar.

Ammar Baig made 24 at the top of the order before Anwar shared useful partnerships to steady the innings. Tabassum Aziz added 17, while Shahrukh Khan remained unbeaten on 19 as the visitors were bowled out.

Middleton's bowlers shared the wickets, with Rehan Udwadia producing the standout performance. He claimed four for 33 from 9.4 overs to finish as the pick of the attack.

Dawood Rahman returned figures of two for 16, while Dale Highton also took two wickets. Rhys Tierney claimed the remaining wicket as Middleton restricted East Lancashire to a chaseable total.

Middleton's reply was not without setbacks as East Lancashire fought hard to defend their score, reducing the hosts to seven wickets down during the chase.

However, Middleton held their nerve to reach 175 for seven in 44.4 overs and secure a valuable victory by three wickets.

The win earned Middleton 12 league points, while East Lancashire collected three bonus points despite defeat.
