Highways contractors repainting road markings have been left red-faced after ‘missing a bit’ at the junction of a one-way street in Bury.
Faded road markings on several roads in Prestwich have been the subject a spring-time ‘glow up’ as part of Bury Council’s highways maintenance and investment programme.
However, newly repainted markings at the junction of Blackburn Street and Park Street, close to Heaton Park, remain one brush stroke away from being complete. Walkers and drivers in the area noticed on Saturday that the carriageway markings said ‘No Cntry’ rather than the intended ‘No Entry’.
The missing middle line of the ‘E’ still remained absent on Monday. One resident, who lives on nearby Beaufort Street, said: “I had a walk on Saturday morning and I saw it straight away as I turned the corner.
“I smiled and said ‘you’ve missed a bit’ to myself. “It reminds me of the film from a few years ago ‘No Country For Old Men’.
“They did a lot of repainting of the road marking lines around here on Wednesday and Thursday last week. “That has been much needed as I’m sure the people around here would agree, as many were faded.
“I suppose when most of us have a slip of the pen it doesn’t get noticed but this one certainly will, by everyone who drives past.” The line painting boob has been the subject of light hearted mockery on a Prestwich community social media page.
One poster said ‘I think it’s a ban on cowboy music’ while another claimed ‘it must be council cuts’. During the setting of the 2025/26 council budget, the authority said it had committed to spending £30 million on improving and maintaining Bury’s road network.
At the time of publishing, Bury Council had not responded to a request for comment.
