Wigan man to climb Kilimanjaro to raise money for local schoolgirl battling cancer

A man from Wigan will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for a local schoolgirl who is battling cancer. 

Chris Paxford from Leigh will be making the 7-day climb in March in aid of Holly’s Blooms Journey. 

5-year-old Holly Prince was just 3 years old when she was diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic condition called Bloom Syndrome. Less than 300 people in the world are registered with it. 

Bloom Syndrome is characterised by unusually small size, sensitivity to sunlight, immune system deficiencies and an extraordinarily high risk for developing cancer of any type early in life. 

We spoke to Holly’s dad Mark & Chris on Friday, you can hear more about Holly’s story and Chris’ climb below:
