The organisers behind some of Littleborough’s best-loved community events have issued a stark warning: without new volunteers, this year’s programme could face serious cuts.
Littleborough Events and Associations Forum (LEAF), the group that coordinates major town events including the Rushbearing Festival, Food and Drink Festival, and the Christmas Lights Switch-On, says its current volunteer base is too small to cope.
Chair Zoe Attwood said the pressure on the existing team is becoming unsustainable. “If one of us gets sick, burned out, or simply has to step away, everything grinds to a halt,” she explained. “That’s the reality we’re facing.”
To make it easier for residents to get involved, LEAF has published a list of specific roles, breaking down exactly what help is needed. Tasks range from event-day support to background planning and logistics. Organisers stress that even small time commitments can make a big difference.
The full list of opportunities is now available online via the Littleborough Events and Associations Forum page on LittleboroughLocal: https://www.littleboroughlocal.co.uk/p/littleborough-events-and-associations.html
The forum is also encouraging residents to attend its next meeting, set to take place on Wednesday 4 February at 7.45pm at Hare Hill House. Those interested in volunteering but unable to attend can submit their contact details via this form:

LEAF has warned that unless several key positions are filled before that meeting, some events may have to be scaled back or cancelled altogether.
It’s not just the main festivals under pressure. Volunteers supporting events at Hare Hill Park say shortages could hit future plans for 2026 as well, with further appeals expected later this year.
Zoe Attwood added: “People often want to help but aren’t sure what’s involved. That’s why we’ve broken it down into clear roles. Have a read, and if you’ve got questions, just ask.”
LEAF is urging anyone who has enjoyed Littleborough’s events in the past, or thought about getting involved but never knew how, to consider stepping forward now.
