Rochdale’s Masters Rugby League team is calling on new and returning players aged 35 and over to get involved as it gears up for pre-season training this January.
Founded in 2021, the club has grown into a thriving hub for rugby enthusiasts, offering inclusive training sessions and regular fixtures that cater for players of all abilities. It is part of the nationwide Masters Rugby League format, which promotes enjoyment and participation over competition.
The team’s upcoming season includes a confirmed calendar of fixtures and social events, culminating in its first-ever international tour to France in 2026.
Training is open to men aged 35 and above, with no requirement for recent playing experience. The club actively welcomes those returning to the sport after a long break, as well as first-time players looking to try rugby in a relaxed and supportive setting.
Sessions are structured to focus on fitness, camaraderie and wellbeing, rather than intense physical contact. Masters Rugby League rules limit tackling and promote respect, making it a safer version of the sport for older players.
Carl Abraham, a leading organiser at the club, said the team is “more than just rugby, it’s about staying active, staying connected and having fun with like-minded people.”
The club also holds regular social get-togethers, strengthening community bonds and providing a valuable outlet for men looking to improve their physical and mental health through sport.
