Officers from GMP Bury are appealing for information following the theft of a rare commemorative boat from a van parked at The Millgate shopping centre in Bury.
The incident occurred between 8.09pm and 8.20pm on Friday 2 May, when two individuals were seen entering the service yard and gaining access to a stationary vehicle. Inside the van was a unique, custom-made model boat valued at approximately £1,500. The model had been specially created to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) and was based on the historic vessel “Sovereign of the Sea.”
Although the boat has since been recovered, GMP is seeking to identify the offenders responsible. Officers have released images of two people they believe may hold information vital to their enquiries.
A GMP spokesperson said: “While the boat has thankfully been returned, this item holds significant commemorative value, and we are keen to bring those responsible to justice. We urge anyone who was in the area at the time or who may recognise the individuals in the images to get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or email 18651@gmp.police.uk quoting log number 1626 of 03/05/2025.
Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers.
