The incident occurred just before 8am, prompting Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to shut the road in both directions. Emergency services were quickly on the scene, and diversions are currently in place while investigations continue.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. The road is expected to remain closed throughout the morning.

Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.

Update: 10:30am - A spokesperson for GMP confirmed: “The road is now reopened but the extent of injuries suffered are unknown at this time.”
