A petrol station and associated Morrisons shop are seeking permission to open 24-hours a day.
Whitefield Garage on Bury New Road is around 160 metres north of the town centre. After a previous redevelopment of the site, there is currently a four pump filling station and a Morrisons outlet at the site.
A condition of the previous development is that all operations at the site should not be open to customers outside the times of 6am to midnight.
Plans lodged with Bury council in the past week request dropping that condition to allow round the clock opening.
In documents published by the council applicant Motor Fuel Group, said: “We wish for the condition to be changed to allow for 24 hours operation of the site.
“The additional opening hours are for the benefit of people working outside the current opening hours such as healthcare workers, delivery drivers, agricultural workers, service industry employees.
“All would gain from an accessible forecourt.”
The application includes a report by Infinity Acoustics Ltd who undertook a noise assessment to assess the potential impact of the extension of operational hours on nearby residential homes and businesses.
That report, said “The site is situated on the A56, Bury New Road, which facilitates moderate to high levels of road traffic flow throughout the day.
“During the site visit, road noise was considered the dominant noise source in the area.”
The report said that during the busiest one hour period between midnight and 6am, it is expected there would be around 22 transactions at the site per hour.
This would equate to approximately six transactions per 15-minute assessment period.
The report added: “The noise impact assessment indicate that, provided all recommendations are implemented, all relevant noise criteria can be achieved, and low impact is expected.
“This represents ‘no observed effect level’.”
Planners at Bury council will decide on the extended hours application in the coming weeks.
