Michael Bamford, the founder of Re-Use Littleborough, has been named the Man of Rochdale 2025 in recognition of his tireless efforts to support those in need both locally and abroad.
Through his non-profit organisation Re-Use Littleborough, Michael and his team of dedicated volunteers collect, repair and redistribute second-hand goods to help people who may not be able to afford everyday essentials. The project not only serves struggling families across the Rochdale borough but also supports children overseas, with an emphasis on sustainable giving and reducing landfill waste.
One nominator described Michael as “a perfect example of someone who works tirelessly to give to the local community,” while others highlighted the scale and scope of his work.
“Without Michael, my family and I would have been left sleeping on floors,” one nomination read. “His generosity and support have made an immeasurable difference in our lives.”
Another described Re-Use Littleborough as “a fabulous non-profit that is a model for sustainable giving,” adding that the shop offers a “dignified shopping experience” for those in need.
Michael’s impact goes beyond practical support. Several nominees noted his refusal to turn anyone away, regardless of their background or circumstances. “He selflessly helps anyone in need,” one person wrote. “He takes on far more than he should, rarely receiving help in return, yet continues to push forward with determination and kindness.”
Described by supporters as generous, humble and inspirational, Michael’s win has been met with widespread applause across the borough.
His work has helped to change lives, restore dignity, and create opportunities where there were once only barriers.
