A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at a major junction in Bury town centre.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the junction of Angouleme Way and Haymarket Street, near Bury Interchange and Bury Market, following the incident earlier today, Tuesday, 25 November.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a pedestrian was hit by a car. The individual was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Officers arrested the driver at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and later on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He has since been de-arrested for the dangerous driving offence but remains under investigation for drug driving.

The area was cordoned off for several hours while emergency services attended. Bury Council advised motorists to expect delays and avoid the area. The incident led to temporary closures on Haymarket Street and Angouleme Way, with traffic diverted around Manchester Road.

Bus services including the 471, 472, 474, 524, 94, 95 and 97 were diverted via Bolton Street while the junction remained inaccessible. The closures have since been lifted and traffic has resumed.

Witnesses described seeing multiple police vehicles at the location and significant disruption during the early afternoon. A map released shortly after the incident showed extensive cordons in place across the affected junctions.

The identity and age of the pedestrian have not been released. Police say an assessment of their injuries is ongoing, but early reports suggest they are not life-threatening.
