A man's body has been recovered from the water in Rochdale, following a large emergency service presence.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Oldham Road at around 4:30pm this afternoon.
Police have confirmed the body of a man has been recovered. He's yet to be formally identified.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said:
"Today (Sunday 4 May 2025) emergency services responded to reports of a concern for welfare at Rochdale Canal. A search operation took place with emergency services at the scene.
"Sadly, the body of a man was recovered from the water. Formal identification is yet to have taken place and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances, identify the man and inform his next of kin.
"People are kindly asked to please avoid the area at this time."
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed earlier that two fire engines and water incident units were on scene.
