GMP responded to an incident this morning at Middleton Gardens shortly after 9.20am to reports of a robbery, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.
It is believed that the suspect was armed with a shotgun.
The Halifax bank remains closed and staff are turning customers away.
GMP has been approached for further comment.
