Eight fire engines are currently on scene tackling a large blaze in Middleton.
Townley Street in Middleton is closed in both directions due to the ongoing incident.
Spring Vale is also closed, with Market Place closed eastbound between the roundabout and Lodge St
Colleagues from Greater Manchester Police are also on scene alongside Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Services (GMFRS).
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 8.45pm this evening (Thursday 30 December) we received the first of several reports about a building fire on Townley Street, Middleton, involving a three-storey commercial premises.
“Eight fire engines from across Greater Manchester are currently in attendance. All three floors were well alight when crews arrived, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using three hose reels, five jets and a turntable ladder to tackle the blaze.
“Road closures are currently in place. Residents are advised to avoid the area and keep all windows and doors closed.”
Jason Rain, GMFRS Group Manager, provided an update just before midnight.
He said: “Thanks to the swift response & hard work of our crews we’ve managed to get on top of this challenging incident.
“Road closures are still in place, and our crews will remain at the scene to identify any remaining hot spots & ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
“This was a multi-agency response, and I’d like to thank colleagues in all blue-light services and at Rochdale Council for their support.
“I’d also like to thank local residents for their cooperation, and ask that people continue to stay clear of the area at this time"
